Boomkat Product Review:
Now that it seems as though there won't be a vinyl edition of the 'Nomad' album, this third and easily the best 12" in this limited edition series just becomes even more crucial - collection the most devastating tracks from the album on one gorgeous slab of dayglo vinyl. 'Grounded' may not be crafted for peak time club play, but the only way you're going to feel the grinding bass on this sombre beast is through a system up to the job. The subbass is scoured with a technofied texture, and syncopated with tempered breakstep style beat patterns and darkside atmospherics for a moody but brilliant track. We've been waiting patiently for a vinyl pressing of the two album oddities on the b-side since hearing the album last month. 'Paradigm Shift' and 'Birks range' are about the furthest point of Headhunters productions from his usual Dubstep stance and tempo, with 'Paradigm Shift' smartly rolling along at 135bpm with a defined Basic Channel presence, reconfiguring Chain Reaction dub techno with offset snare cracks and halfstepped bass rolls, but leaving the essential chord stabs and cavernous atmosphere firmly in place for a prime example of the possibilities of merging the two styles. 'Birk's Range' however moves even closer, with a solid 130bpm thump/skip aligning it with T++ and Substance productions, but resolutely retaining it's dubstep DNA with a twisted bass syncopation and Peverelist-alike percussive pallette. It's a fitting end to a rather essential series from the mind of Headhunter and we'd recommend it very highly to anybody interested in the dancers dream fusion of dubstep and techno. KILLER!!!!
