Tracks for Griis:
Stadich Joust My In Hân
Stille Mûle Fan De See / Wifeljende Wyn
Boomkat Product Review
Three intimate, cosy and ethereal "lullabies for adults" crafted from guitar, electronics and softly spoken vocals in the Dutch Frisian dialect. 'Griis' is the third time the brothers Kleefstra have worked with guitarist Anne-Chris Bakker, continuing their penchant for working with modern masters of quiet such as Peter Broderick, Machinefabriek, Nils Frahm and Greg Haines. It breaks down as two extended sides of evocative "theatrical music"; dreamy compositions poised between slightly ominous mittel European folk atmosphere and soporific electronics. Sparse guitar notes are rendered into shimmering harmonics with breathless subtlety, then diffused, looped and smudged into slow-moving and mysterious landscapes. Jan's poetry, spoken in the distinctive Frisian burr is the icing on this multi-tiered cake, merging with the story at perfect junctions to draw us further into it's rustling, enveloping fabric. A real beauty, this.
