Boomkat Product Review:
Slackk's Sulk label hold down a killller EP from OG Slew Dem producer, JT The Goon. A producer of quality, not quantity - well, unless you're in his inner circle and loaded with dubs - JT serves a masterclass of instrumental grime economy with 'Goon Patrol', trimming back on overblown statements in favour of making every drum, stab and sparkling motif work sharp and deadly. His productions quite simply have a swagger that a lot of yungers haven't honed yet, from the shoulder-rolling syncopation and lazer-etched melodies of 'War' thru the searing yet buttoned-up balance of Maniac-like aggression and electro-trance riffs in 'Without Warrant', to the precise tropical bounce of 'So Real' and the badlad swooner, 'Twist of Fate'. On the remix, Sirpixalot nails 'Twist of Fate' with six inch snare rails and evil bass grind. Big tip!
