Boomkat Product Review:
Paradinas looks back to go forward on his best µ-Ziq joint for years - an enjoyable update of his 1990s jungle-IDM drills that'll appeal to anyone into AFX, Vibert, Plaid etc.
Don't be confused by the title, "Goodbye" is the first in a series of releases from Planet Mu boss Mike Paradinas - it's far from his swansong. The album was inspired by a dig thru the archives while he was remastering 1997's "Lunatic Harness", his best loved µ-Ziq album and established IDM gospel. Influenced by the jungle and drill n bass ideas he'd been toying with in the mid-1990s, he's given those sketches an upgrade and managed to retain the mood of his early records while upping the quality. The title track is the most effortlessly enjoyable - it's classic Paradinas, with a sick choppy vocal, expertly sliced.
Elsewhere we've got cloud-punching alt-jungle euphoria on 'Giddy All Over' that sports a rolling bassline that knocks us right back to '97, and pure Plaid/Black Dog pad-blessed lightness on the ace 'Rave Whistle'.
