Boomkat Product Review:
Originally released on the now defunct Incoming! label, Golden Star was the third album released by Burnt Friedman under his Nonplace Urban FIeld moniker. Recent fans of Friedman's work will no doubt be fascinated by this strange piece of electronic music history. You can hear the impetus of the jazz and electronica styles that would go on to inform his later work for labels like Ninja Tune and his own Nonplace imprint, but Golden Star is a far more mixed bag. Expect to hear finely stitched together glitch fare as well as more conventional drum & bass, downbeat tracks and dub influenced 4/4 sounds. Here you can hear the makings of a consummately gifted, jazz-inspired electronic musician who seems to slot somewhere between Squarepusher and Jan Jelinek.
