The first member of the ‘Northern Wrongbeat’ scene (his own tag, not ours) RandomNumber (or Matt Robinson to those who know his mobile-number) makes the kind of beat-heavy laptop symphonies that up the ante for atmospheric digitalis. Opening with the rather good ‘Troubled Moves’, Robinson belies his time spent on the skins for Hood, with beats stacking up sky-high and not a mid-air collision in sight, a trick he repeats on the delicious ‘Autumn Shine’; balancing its needle-work electronics with a golden hue of BoC-style atmospherics. Elsewhere, ‘Effective Edge’ comes across like Planet Mu having an argument with Benbecula (who wins? You decide!), ‘Golden Acre Sleeps’ is a rubber-soled bounce down a sun dappled electronic highway, whilst ‘Sleep’ is a caffeinated blast of Tenniswood-indebted goodness.
