Boomkat Product Review:
Alexander Robotnick’s little known but keenly sought after 1984 ambient tape is regenerated by Mannequin and made available on vinyl and digital formats for the first time
The ‘GMM Suite’ was conceived as soundtrack to a computer game by Florentine A/V collective Giovanotti Mondani Meccanici (Mundane Mechanical Youth), who relied upon one Maurizio Dami aka Italo Disco legend Alexander Robotnick, for their music. Accompanied by vocals from Eva Cucci, Dami supplies a dreamlike suite of lustrous synth intrigue generated by an alphaSyntauri, one of the first affordable digital synths, which corresponded with its alphaPlus software on the Apple II computer. Presented here in two long side, as with the original, super limited (100 copies) tape release via Materiali Sonori, the results echo a world of Italian electronic experimentation before it, and reams of contemporaneous library music, shimmering somewhere between Suzanne Ciani, Doris Norton and Ian Boddy.
