Boomkat Product Review:
Following on from the formidable dissertations of 'Paper White' and 'Big Black Square', 'Ghost Weight' see's the Tarental trio laying down some more lengthy pieces that are a dictionary definition of the word Quixotic. Clocking in at just shy of 30 minutes, the four tracks on 'Ghost Weight' all have a distinctive flavour which is best tasted as part of the whole, thus allowing the subtleties of each to emerge through contrast. First up is the bite-size treat 'Natoma' wherein unproduced background noise is glimpsed through a corrugated soundscape that bottoms out into the title track 'Ghost Weight' whose swooping, elongated structures bring to mind a sanguine God Speed You Black Emperor or a droneless Sunn O))) (if there could be such a thing...). Of the other two tracks, 'Holy Throbs of Silence' gets upto no good in the Oval/Akufen play box with a result that sounds not unlike a horde of digital chomping termites issuing squatters rights on your speakers, whilst 'Every Possibility The Next Thing To A Certainty' matches it's title's length with an almost open ended composition that employs sparse drums to thrilling effect.
