Boomkat Product Review:
Production Unit aka Marcia Blaine School For Girls turns out his first solo EP under this moniker for Highpoint Lowlife. It's generally a dubstep leaning affair, well tempo-wise anyway, but as with anything MBSFG-related, there's strong traces of moody techno and crafty electronica woven deeply into their rugged fabric. Starting at 'It's Personal', pastoral synth chords warm the surface of a cold and brittle halfstep structure, gradually catalysing bouncing techno stabs to come out of hiding and form some kinda 2010 tribute to 'Incunabula'. 'Axel' is a more abstract affair, like Cloaks' metallic configurations given a nicer sci-fi aura, but we should really direct you straight to the devastating 'With An X'. Rubbing a classic NY house sample up the wrong way , he deftly stirs in mournful new-beat wails and jacking tribal drums like Kingdom meets Gavin Russom over a box of auld R&S tracks. Do not miss this one!!!
