Boomkat Product Review:
New On Lex the debut album from Danger Mouse and Jemini The Gifted One. This is a killer hip hop album, a rarity in 2003 for the simple fact that it manages to be 100% solid in all areas, lyrics and vocal delivery, beats, all old/mid/next school points covered, funk by the crate and a blast of controlled originality. 'Born-A-Mc' is the perfect introduction, cooing angels, evocative strings riding choppy drums and tight bass with the multifaceted vocal style. 'Copy Cats' with Prince Po drops harsh hard snapping beats with the rough styled lyrics and then there's 'Medieval' with The Pharcyde a track that's good enough to eat. Then 'Bush Boys' kicks a dope political slant with a beat and vocal attack that brings to mind classic UK hip hop like Hijack. Beats are a mixture of new school clipped funk mixed with classic breaks. Add killer production with melodius leanings and more truly sick artwork by eh? (pinpoint emboss patterns and gold fold spot gloss) and one no you need this one. Sixteen tracks. Completely essential. (LP version forthcoming).
