Boomkat Product Review:
Esper Sommer Eide (also 50% of the excellent Alog) has gained a strangely feverent following under his Phonophani moniker over the last couple of years.
Having released his debut album for Biosphere's ludicrously selective Biophon imprint (a couple of releases in 7 years!), this intense second album is a veritable feast of dense ambience and deconstructive sampling techniques, delving deep into an ocean of found sounds where shards of forgotten instruments overlap with a dense layer of midnight blue hum. At times remeniscent of Oval's microscopic structures, at others bringing to mind Nobkazu Takemura's playfulness (especially with the computerised vocal strewn around a number of tracks), this incredible album will most of all appeal to fans of those two towering Scandinavian masters of midnight ambience - Biosphere and Deathprod. Incredible music.
