Boomkat Product Review:
Norscq is the latest project from Jean-Louis Morgere of cult '80s French band The Grief and this album, Gelatinosa Substancia, takes the form of a very strange but wholly excellent electroacoustic collage, setting plunderphonic sampling routines against more bizarre recorded elements that draw on voice recordings and general field recorded bric-a-brac. This is all handled in a fashion that bridges the more academic inclinations of early tape music with the sort of postmodern, irreverent strategies of People Like Us - and a highly effective strategy this proves to be, keeping the tone in a constant state of flux: one moment you're immersed in the strangely beguiling, cut & paste auditory panic attack that is 'Les yeux des calamars avaient quelque chose de brumeux et de déliquescent' only to find yourself plunged into a world of jazzy, thriller soundtracks on 'Il est étrange de voir à quel point les gens sont disposés à se laisser abuser par les apparences magiques de l'art.'
