Boomkat Product Review:
If a new Autechre album is seen as an event - greeted with rumour, fuss and counter rumour, then a new ep is like a snapshot of possible futures. Well near impossible to grasp completely at first listen, always needing several visits, but when you consider records such as "Garbage", "Anvil Vapre", "EP 7.2" and "Splt_Rmx" each becoming favourites, then benchmarks and finally, well, proving almost unobtainable without engaging with e-bay vultures. So, to the tracks and they really are quite something. The title tune kicks proceedings off, setting unprecedented standards of mayhem, dsp'd to the max and quite overwhelming, in a good way o'course. "Dial" surprises even more, the beats are a cavalcade at almost junglist tempo, all with Sean and Rob's own unmistakeable agenda to the fore. Try dancing to this one without a safety net and not miss astep when the beat increases in tempo and spirals into apparent insanity. Awesome. So to the highlight. Nine minutes of "Cap.IV" has been the most engaging listen in the offices for some time now, a slalom like slide of squashed beats, eerie submerged voices, the twitters of percussion and avalanching beats topped with an icing of sublime melody, emerging perilously as powder soft keys. Challenging, twisted music from true masters.
