Boomkat Product Review:
Hot on the heels of their debut album for Diagonal, Stuart Argabright's Death Comet Crew do their avant-funk thing for Citinite backed with remixes from Hieroglyphic Being and Gifted & Blessed (GB). Both of the originals capture that cross-pollinating, experimental spirit and sense of urban paranoia core to their 1985 outings. 'Galacticoast Mosi' rides a slinky hybrid of jazz-fusion guitars, sampled car horns and almost scatty vocals with dope swagger, whilst 'Alpha Delta' could be the incidental theme to a psychedelic sequence in a low-rent cyber sci-fi flick, layering brooding synths, wah wah guitar and and Kamala Sankaram's sitar. However, the remixes are far more reduced, GB's distilling the former to a lean, stepping electro groove, woozy drones and glinting arpeggios, while Jamal Moss is at his best with a sinuous Hieroglyphic Being reinterpretation of 'Alpha Delta'.
