Boomkat Product Review:
Frozen Border opens the gates for another release of essential darkside techno and house refinements from their shadowy studio. The A-side cleverly incorporates the garage-swing influences of Scuba and Shed with metallic snare syncopations pivoting over swelling subs, pitching with a submerged dynamic that makes for an seriously gratifying dancefloor winner. A second side moves more towards the territory occupied by Function or Samuli Kemppi, influenced by the stringent bleeps and glassy drones of Mika Vainio and driven by pistoning hi-hats with an undertow of shivering subbass. Much like the Sandwell District material, this stuff is economical in its approach, but measureably incremental in the results, blurring the lines between techno, house and 'step music for the club bodies that crave this sort of functional progression. A must for fans of advanced, stripped and heavy technofied progressions - heavy!!!
