Boomkat Product Review:
Now this is an interesting one indeed! Sculptor Rod Cooper makes instruments. obsessed with the qualities of metal he set about making a series of sculptured devices tailored to make sound when friction is applied. Each instrument can take Cooper up to three years to make then he proceeds to coax out of them the most haunting of tones, utilizing their properties which he himself has manufactured. I don't think there could possibly be a more hands-on way of creating experimental music, and the pieces themselves reflect this love of the medium, this almost spiritual bond between Cooper and his noise-making objects. As with most Room40 releases this is unlikely to appeal to the mainstream, but lovers of seriously high quality drone music will no doubt be frothing at the mouth already. As the textures build and cavernous drones ring out across gigantic open spaces it feels almost belittling to imagine how these noises are created, belittling and awe inducing. Listen and be amazed.
