Boomkat Product Review:
Wolfgang Voigt (Gas/Sog/Studio 1 etc.) pays on the promise of his 2008 12" 'Freiland Klaviermusik' with a full album of psychotomimetic techno fonk for Profan. That 12" still stands out as one of the most shocking techno records of the last few years. It's definitely not everyones cup of tea and it's been known to clear late night floors in Manchester on a few occasions, but for those of a crooked disposition we couldn't recommend much better. 'Freiland Klaviermusik' is piano house gone avant-garde, using incessant and off-key repetition to create exceptional tracks of helplessly funky and head warping dance musik. The formula is reworked in thirteen permutations, at times sounding like the score to some surreal silent movie, at others like Steve Reich gone so wrong that it becomes very, very right. If you like your techno abstract, thought provoking and borderline psychotic, this is a must!
