Boomkat Product Review:
Crikey, here's a trip down memory lane: two CDs capturing some twenty-three tracks of rarities, demos, outtakes and previously unreleased material from electronica stars Freescha. It's wonderful to hear the band's early EPs again: 'Lift' is pure magic, a missing link between Air's Moon Safari and Boards Of Canada's Music Has The Right To Children and the likes of 'Holiday Frost' and 'The Silver Screen' are pretty special too. The second disc is equally engrossing with the introductory ambience of 'Winkle' (yeah, maybe not the best title choice) followed by the gorgeous, misted-over beat crunching of 'Delicious Pink Baby Funk' (again, this clearly wasn't a vintage period for the duo as far as naming things is concerned - I only hope neither of them had kids around the time...). Some of this material is coming up to ten years old, but the music remains resistant to the fickle climes of electronica, largely thanks to Freescha's irresistible knack for shaping a melody, not to mention the kind of timeless analogue sounds they conjure up in the process. Recommended.
