Boomkat Product Review:
Berlin's restless pop experimentalist Hanno Leichtmann rekindles his Static alias with an engrossingly unique album. Five years since his last on CCO, Hanno has spent the meantime playing in Pole's live band with his Groupshow buddies (Jan Jelinek and Andrew Pekler), besides his quieter outings as Forest Jackson and the ambient album 'Nuit Du Plomb', but he was also hatching a bold plan for this LP. Inspired by participation in a festival of improvised music in Berlin, he has collaborated with noted improvisors Axel Dörner (trumpet), Tobia Delius (saxophone), and Clare Cooper (Harp) among many others on 'Freedom Of Noises' to consolidate their expressive methodologies within a pop-sharp framework blending considered arrangements with, well, the freedom of improvised noises. The results is an ambitious multiplex of intriguing sounds woven into a vibrant tapestry of ideas loaned from folk, ambient electronics and pop, but ultimately creating something beyond their borders and excitingly, almost psychedelically adventurous.
