Boomkat Product Review:
Washington DC's dreamiest duo land a sublime debut album of colourful, kinetic dance music on Beautiful Swimmers' Future Times label. 'Free USA' is the result of extensive hardware studio jams that were subsequently laser cut into the nine tracks before you, distilling glistening traces of new age ambient, '80s boogie and proto-house into crystalline, psychedelic shapes ripe for the 'floor and the headphone float. They're lean but detailed creations, glyding between swinging boogie patter in 'Needs' to the bouncing deep end springboard 'Down The Tubes' via Sino-tech swing on 'Top Hat' reminding of Ryuichi Sakamoto and YMO, thru gorgeous 4th world moments nodding to OPN and Eno in 'Dit Floss', to rumpin' early house styles in 'Time 2 Technique', and wickedly overdriven jack in 'Distored' or 'F-USA'. Top tip for those who like it raw but sophisticated.
