Boomkat Product Review:
Label founder Rune Kristoffersen recorded his second offering for his own label back in 2003. "Free Music" is an intriguing collection of tracks designed around the manipulation of appregiated patterns - sometimes quiet and brooding, at others more openly improvised. The results are intriguing and, in keeping with the overall label philosophy, deeply original. The opening "Stranded in Narrow Air" develops from a simple pattern into a series of malfunctions and layered developments that, against the odds, ends up exuding warmth and intimacy in a way that reeks of honesty and a lack of pretension, something releases of this kind often fall prey to. "Red Mystic", meanwhile, sounds like a robotic take on the Berlin techno of Basic Channel - stripped down even further to its most functional components - and yet again ending up resonating with warmth and fragility as the loops start to disintegrate and fall apart. Intriguing and highly rewarding - another big rune recommendation.
