Boomkat Product Review:
This is the debut solo album from one of the lo-fi garage-pop scene's most ubiquitous figures; Frankie Rose has been a member of Vivian Girls, Crystal Stilts and Dum Dum Girls, but now arrives at a fresh new project that seems to ditch the scuzzy tendencies of old in favour of higher fidelity vintage pop sounds. The cleaned-up, echoing power-chord sounds of 'Candy' and the languid '60s girl-group sheen of 'Memo' are perhaps a little more refined than you might expect given Rose's musical CV, but she and her bandmates haven't overpolished their sound: 'Girlfriend Island' has plenty of fizz and energy about it, while 'Don't Tread' acquires a welcome swampy feel. Good stuff.
