Boomkat Product Review:
Nausea-inducing drones from Prague's Opening Performance Orchestra, who take Phill Niblock's guiding compositions and push them to their limits. As Niblock himself says: "If the neighbors don't complain, it's probably not loud enough." Sunn O))) fans do not sleep on this!
If you're into tonal drone and haven't come across American experimental composer and filmmaker Phill Niblock, it might be a good time to acquaint yourself. This dense slab of glacial synthesis was recorded in 2017, before a live performance at the Ostrava Days Festival of New and Experimental Music and was later engineered by Stephan Mathieu, so it sounds thick and disorientating. Over an hour it builds slowly from undulating, dancing wails to bassy hums into a dense mass of sound that's like swarms of robotic bees replaying the Southern Lord back catalogue at 1% speed. Fucking good, basically.
