Boomkat Product Review:
Under normal circumstances, a song so stripped down and maudlin wouldn't seem like a particularly good choice for a single, but given the wintry tone that presides over so much of Bon Iver's acclaimed For Emma, Forever Ago, this title track sounds like a veritable hoedown. It has brass, no less. Whatever, it's a notable excerpt from an exceptional album, but you'll already know that, so let's move on to B-side 'Wisconsin', named after the state harbouring the by-now legendary shack/studio in which the album was recorded. The song would have been a worthy album track, but here it proves to be a most welcome appendix to the LP, all shady and cloaked in filtered echo, sounding almost like a Grouper remix. Sublime.
