First reissue of heatstruck, syrupy disco-boogie badness from South Africa, 1985 - rare as f*ck, too; original copies are known to trade for nearly £700!
In 1985 Moses Mafiri and EMI Jo’burg’s in-house producer Selwyn Shandel cooked up these prime nuggets right on the cusp of the bubblegum sound, with strong traces of Italo and radio-friendly US rock all licked up in it. ‘Fly Cherry’ locks into a proper, slow bouncy strut bolstered by chipping guitars and of course the Cap’n’s belting vocals. On the flipside ‘Hey! Hey! Hey!’ emphasises the Italo influence at an effortless mid-tempo glyde with a right lather of stereo-pinging synths gilded by a smoother vocal from Mosez. Both guaranteed dancefloor smashers.
