Tracks for Fleurs:
Boomkat Product Review
Fans of Cold Cave's recent excursions into the dark heart of the '80s cold wave scene should rejoice at this: Former Ghosts is the supergroup formed by Xiu Xiu's Jamie Stewart, Nika Roza of Zola Jesus and Freddy Rupert from This Song Is A Mess But So Am I. Fizzy electronics, thinned out drum machines and wiry, industrial tones are the order of the day, and the songwriting is of an exceptionally high standard - as far as most electronic pop goes, at least. The pitched up vocals and computerized darkness of 'I Wave' sounds a little like a Burial record being played through laptop speakers and 'Mother' proves itself to be an especially convincing take on gothic synth-pop. Elsewhere, 'The Bull And The Ram' is like a female-fronted Joy Division song and 'Hello Again' is a terrific, rasping blast of baroque electro-pop joy.
