Boomkat Product Review:
Sonic Pieces deliver Erik K Skodvin's dedication to nocturnal Americana on new album 'Flame'. One half of Deaf Center, and sometimes recording under the Svarte Greiner moniker, here Erik works under his own name and evokes a more personal connection with a suite of evocative composition stitching singed acoustic instruments to burnt drums, spectral vocals and gloaming, minimalist atmospheres capturing a tension that bristles throughout. The album brings a sort of resolution to the narrative arc began on Skodvin's previous album 'Flare', as though coming to the end of a long night with a quietly renewed sense of wonder and psychedelic drama manifest in dubbed polyrhythmic percussion, glistening strings and a dilated recording quality made at Vox-Ton, NK and Miasmah studios in Berlin. It makes for a captivating set of nocturnes warmly recommended to fans of Loren Connors, Jozef Van Wissem, Matt Christensen and Slow Walkers.
