Rare, heavyweight UK street jazz reissued with the ICE seal of quality to sighs of relief heard from Moss Side to Toronto
A pearlescent fusion of vibes from early ‘90s R&B to G-funk, hip hop and NYC disco, Accura’s sole album is understandably impossible to find on original formats, due the sheer golden levels of the vibes inside. Dug out for first legit restoration and reissue with ICE by its maker Frank Ed and Toronto digger Matt Stein, it’s set to absolutely burn up with a string of pure summer jams oozing with good times ‘90s soul, or what the artist termed “Street Jazz”. For old heads the style drips with nostalgia for the days of baggy jeans and Kangol hats, and while the Kangols haven’t quite come back around, the youngers will clearly find a lot to swang their parachute pants to, too.
From the top, it’s gem after gem, dispensing the juicy swang of ‘The Vibe’ beside the horny West End swagger of ‘Groove Control’ with its Loretta Holloway lick, and the new age jazz-funk promise of ‘Ghetto Strings’ to get you loosen up. The killer R&B bump of ‘Jazz Maiden (Hip Hop Mix)’ is a dead strong highlight, and ‘The Good Times’ cools off on the set’s mellowest moment beside the plush G-funk glyde of ’Summer Jazz’, while the FM keys of ‘Feelin’ Jazzy’ mark the album’s suavest highpoint along with the cool breeze of ’Summer Jazz (nhb mix)’ to sell the deal.
