Boomkat Product Review:
London has been frapping itself to sweat over Benin City's 'Fires In The Park'. A boogie melange of hip hop/spoken word, jazz, and electronics with a rocking, emotive indie swagger, it ticks all the right boxes for your archetypal urbane bachelor pad dweller and poly-cultural house share posse; it's never too down or gloomy, never quite euphoric, but bubbling with a wry positivity equally adept at soundtracking a grey-skied BBQ or a post-pub rabble with the lads. Joshua Idehen is a likeable vocalist, adopting a much more populist approach than his edgy appearances on LV records, whilst Theo Buckingham (drums) and Tom Leaper (sax/samples/synths) bend genres like a rack of bargain bin records left in the sun for too long.
