Boomkat Product Review:
This guy’s just getting better and better, delivering a full-frontal beat decimation draped in his ever-expanding coat of all things black, tweaking, cutting, splicing and spitting out some of the best beat constructions and percussive fits you’ll ever hear...whoooaaa! Find Candace is much less ‘conceptual’ affair than his recent ‘Winter In The Belly Of A Snake’ album for Planet-Mu (scary subtext aside), and finds Mr Funk concentrating on a vicious explosion of all things beat drven and menacing. Regardless of the totally malladjusted theme, sleeve design and track titles (take the opening “Befriend a Child Killer Remix” as an example, hmmm), there’s a terrifically life-affirming energy to this album. If the intention here is to force the listener to dip his face into a vat of mascara and black eyeliner, dragging fists along shards of broken glass while covered in fur and ripped leather, its all lost on this particular listener. To me it sounds like the work of a master technician giving out the funk with utmost respect for all hardcore traditions, ripping walls apart with a beat mangling that at all times stays tight and uncompromising, armed up with a good sense of humour and the knowledge that, short of our man RDJ, no one constructs breakbeats as good as this. The CD features some essential bonus cuts : the nightmarish sermon of ‘Children’s Limbo’, the massive ‘Dolleater’ track from ‘Doll Doll Doll’ and the twisted organ tones of ‘Bind Candace’. Awesome.
