Boomkat Product Review:
Infused with a punk spirit and wide-eyed eclecticism 'Fifth Column', is a left-of-centre pop fest with melodic nods to The Kinks, Buddy Holly and The Ronettes. Holed up in Edinburgh, selecting the finest from four albums-worth of material, Tom Bauchop (U.N.P.O.C.) has been waiting an age for this moment to sing his simple songs of freedom, abandonment and adventure. ·'Fifth Column' was written on Tom's own lo-fi mini-studio and recorded in a place where the tools of Phil Spector or Brian Wilson are stripped down to the basics: guitars, bass, multi-tracked voice, and the spectral sound of studio hiss and hum. Check.
