Boomkat Product Review:
Michael Fackesch and Chris De Luca, long dormant heroes of the IDM scene, finally return to the fray with this new EP for K7 and the sort of seriously exquisite packaging that only cash rich labels can contemplate employing. Lovely spot-gloss artwork aside, what we get here is a mixed bag of styles and new directions which kick off with the Tes (Lex) collaboration "Fat Camp Feva" - a staggered squashed monster of a tune that rolls along with much intricacy and glitch disruption, the rhymes delivered with nasal aplomb from the excellent Tes crew, and the bounce provided with all the electronic hip hop crunch that you'd expect from Germany's finest IDM production duo. Two remixes of "Fat Camp Feva" come courtesy of Funckarma (deep, dark, awesome beat punches and modulations) and Funckarma's fantastic side-project Shadowhuntaz (Non-genetic re-delivering the rhymes with much minimal panache and analog underlays). The flipside, however, extends its ambitions much wider in the construction of, erm, "a proper song"- but, alas, the result comes across much like an inferior Finley Quaye. And he was bad enough. Stick to the A-side and enjoy.
