Boomkat Product Review:
Your regular stream of In The Red trash-pop continues with this latest outing from Seatle band The Intelligence, as produced by the label's in-house knob wrangler Mike McHugh. It should come as no surprise then that this record slots into the label's highly distinctive sonic profile with effortless ease, though some friction with fellow scenesters Eat Skull is 'hinted' at by the song title 'Fuck Eat Skull', which may or may not be a tirade against the Siltbreeze scuzz maestros. The evidence is fairly compelling though... As indicated by the album title, Fake Surfers embraces the reverberant twang of surf rock without being too pious about it. 'Debt & ESP' is especially good fun on this front, nicely balancing Beat Happening-type disshevelment with all manner of resonant, punchy garage sounds. Another fine hip-shaking, ear-bashing bulletin from the prolific and on-form In The Red.
