Thizzing ambient levitation systems by London’s cult Latvian artist, mu tate, heading in breezy pursuit of 2021’s Experiences Ltd. album for Alex Egan’s Utter - RIYL special guest dj, Huerco S., Perila
‘Faded’ builds on mu tate’s fine reputation for filigree ambient construction with five parts of nervous but lush energy diffused into elusive, aerosolised states. Horizontally blissed, but also with enough kinetic propulsion to coax an early-doors ‘floor onto its toes, the EP evokes a dreamily paradoxical suspension of disbelief that’s hard not to be seduced by.
Its title part sets billowing steppers parameters where feet hardly touch the ground, a feeling bolstered by the buoyant subs and crackling metallic processing and tin-foil tang of ‘Ish’ and mercurial electro-dub dynamism of ‘F12 Dub’. The elements come to settle in a sublime tension between swooping sub-bass and ticklish percussion on ‘ No Show’, and Chuvash ambient spirit santebela chiefs in on ‘Benz’ for a final push off into anaesthetised, weightless and silty-textured ambient swill.
