Boomkat Product Review:
The latest Fabric mix comes courtesy of those London based heavyweight jazz heads Bugz in The Attic. The Bugz are one of the finest and richest musical collective's around, having remixed everthing from Macy Gray to Victor Duplaix, and started countless labels, offshoots, projects and collaborations and of course cemented the Broken Beat / London Boogie scene into the wider dance music tapestry. This ace Fabric CD sees them deliver some of their finest mixes with a splicing of their favourite tunes, and at least one exclusive track from a forthcoming Bugz project. Starting off with a lush introduction from Bugz sidekick and genius producer Domu under his pseudonym Umod, 'Tromboline' is a spacy jazz funk electronic journey which sets the stage perfectly, gets you ready for some real ass-shaking action which arrives with Dego and Kaidi Tathams 'Got Me Puzzled'. A Body and Soul groove injected with a west london beat, a class vocal which almost scat's around the shuffle and the swooping bassline which delivers the most important portion of groove to the track, jazztastic. This mix up wouldn't be the same without Including the absolute classic acid breaks of Seiji' featuring Lyric L with 'Loose Lips', an anthem for broken beat if ever there was one, pure London style breaks with electronic noises, ace acid and brilliant rhymes from Lyric L. Also a sneak preview to the DKD Project which is Daz-i-kue, Dego and Kaidi Tatham, and a fine little slice of jiggy it is too, elements from all 3 producers are present, and if you know their work your gonna be bugging about to this winner. Other standouts are Nu Design's 'Time To Skank' from the ever heavy Zed Bias camp, the 2 step shuffle and heavy bass of Artworks 'Red', Afronaught's anthemic mix of Alison Davids 'Dreams', and the Neptunes remix of Daft Punk's 'Harder Better Faster Stronger'. The Real Deal from Da Bugz, ace.
