Boomkat Product Review:
Includes an ace M.E.S.H. deconstruction/remix
Mexico City’s influential N.A.A.F.I. crew present the brooding results of Imaabs’ sessions in the RBMA studio with cello virtuoso Felicia Morales and multi-instrumentalist Lia Nadja, backed with a brilliant, convulsive M.E.S.H. remix.
Framed by fractured dembow rhythms and expansive atmospheres, Felicia’s strings lend a seasick motion emphasised by Lia’s siren like vocal in the stormy churn of Extravío, whereas Mordaza tunnels under the ‘floor on some some stygian rave mission to a melting hot underground sound.
Enter M.E.S.H. for a mind-bending remix of Extravío, extruding its intro to a plasmic wormhole before kerning the groove with tantalising rhythmic resolution, swiping out half the drums and leaving the rest to land like languorous slow motion shrapnel.
