Boomkat Product Review:
Top notch compilation including a cover of White Mice and an exclusive Tapes nugget!
Bullion’s Deek label provide a 2nd exquisite suite of cover versions, or Extraordinary Renditions, as the perfect way to absorb their filigree pop spectrum with some real gems from friends and family.
Working both as a lush showcase for Bullion’s wide-reaching production styles, and a bevvy of reference points for the label’s tastes, it covers daydreamin’ soft-pop, worldly dub and African rhythms smudged with glowing soul tones, shaping up their own lil’ alternate daydreamin’ world fringing on the ‘floor but also at home while washing the dishes.
There’s a fair bit to go on, but we’d recommend checking Geller, Kaya’s natty cover of White Mice’s Youth of Today, and Tapes in wistful casio-pop mode taking on Daniel Johnson’s Held the Hand, or the way Bullion flips the kiddies ditty, Heaven is a Wonderful Place into some kinda dusky jazz-funk gem for starters, and you’ll know what to do next.
