Boomkat Product Review:
Belgium’s Ekster shepherd a lovely collection of fluffy ambient variations from eleven European artists in Exo, their first label compilation, arriving not long since their cryptographic T-shirt collaboration series with TCF.
Intended as a sort of waking dream sequence to “accompany you on an imagined journey… where reality surpasses every exotic fiction”, the carefully selected track list slopes a wending course from the melancholic chamber arrangement of Milan W.’s Capella thru the dusty modular mites of Hiele’s Apax Pernod and the butter popcorn bubble of Bear Bones Lay Low’s Festida De Fuego alongside the swaying harmonic elegance of Mittland Och Leo’s Trooper and Tito R’s late night waltz Minuit, on the first disc.
The second disc is where it gets really interesting, though. Rome’s Polysick sets the tone with the beautiful, chiming jazz wisdom of Egeria before Lieven Martens Moana of Dolphins Into The Future sets sail for the south seas with the surreal soundscaping of Tradewind, leading to a sophisticated solo piano piece by Hantrax.
A dream for the dreamers, then…
