Boomkat Product Review:
Encrypted disco/edit enigmas from a new face on the block, Image Man, whose druggily effective/seductive 2nd 12” sounds like someone just spiked Mood Hut gang’s organic juice supply.
Excited Delirium is a wonderfully giddy state of affairs, flipping resampled samples of soul, disco and whatever-the-fuck-else into a hazy, phasing live jams about, in his own words “…loss and the developmental/gentrification hell which has blanketed once homely neighbourhoods.”
Up top he’s got us rapt with the lush tension of hi-pitched vox and dreamily detached disco-tech thump in Ayodo, especially when it calves away to reveal different sections of the same loops like Jamal Moss in full flow, whilst the breezing strings and sultry film samples of Paraeidolia make for a real daydreaming beauty.
Down below, he ramps the tempo again to sound like Claude Young or Shake at their most locked yet loose in Misophonic, and the reversed loops and nervy groove ofTorpor makes a teasing kiss-off to remember.
You’ll really want to check this one if yr into the Aught label or the best fringe ‘floor music.
