Boomkat Product Review:
First ever full issue of a near mythical Detroit electro obscurity, now backed with a wicked JTC mix, but originally made and released as an edition of 50 promos in 1987.
Evolution ⁵ Technology sounds like the kind of joint that might crop up during an episode of New Dance Show, danced to by a crowd of power twerkers and besuited dudes with something to show.
It’s Dark Entries 2nd reissue of work by Detroit electro-techno producer DJ Maestro - who was half of Series A alongside Kid Fresh - following their reissue of Maestro’s Nu-Sound II Crew / Magnus II split in 2014.
The 7” vocal mix wears its Electrifying Mojo, Prince and Juan Atkins influences proudly in the chopped vocals and stern 909 boom of the 7” mix whilst the broader, killer dub brings the drums forward with some force.
The JTC mix doesn’t really sound that era, instead preferring to take the original elements deeper into a sort of ‘90s electro-soul vibe a la Mr De-meets-Juan Atkins lusher techno work.
