Feldermelder attempts to gird his loins, and yours, against the eschaton, with a set of sweepingly expressive electronic textures and post-classical intimation.
Co-founder of -OUS, Feldermelder channels feelings of anguish, frustration, resilience and vulnerability into his ‘Euphoric Attempts’, achieving a sound that humbly struggles against the odds. After working with Sara Oswald on a pair of releases, his first new recordings since 2020 depict the artist-technician at his most intimate, using music as a way to process and come to terms with “the collapse of humanity” by reigniting “the essential remnants of my inner euphoria, and perhaps yours too.” The results can be compared with aspects of work by Pita, especially its contrast of bittersweet lush/harshness, and also with the gyring sound design of Lee Gamble’s offbeat works in his feel for space and layers of ephemeral, memory-jogging melody embedded in the roil.

Feldermelder’s influences range from pioneering early electronic music to contemporary analogue electronics to classic jazz and beyond. The diversity of the music that inspires him is mirrored in his own work, which illustrates an ever-evolving sound, and indicates that influence is seen as both map and compass, guiding divergent inclinations.”
