Boomkat Product Review:
One of Detroit's most feted producers scales up to a stellar debut LP with 'Euphonium The Album' for his Sistrum label. Since 2006, Patrice Scott's productions have staked out a true skool Detroit house sound deeply inspired by the originators - Juan Atkins, Derrick May, Larry Heard, Ron Hardy - yet subtly distinguished by a subtle, soulful watermark all of his own. With 'Euphonium The Album' he explores that aesthetic over nine tracks of raw yet sophisticated house music, anchoring astral synth licks and gorgeous pads with purring and driving grooves between the spine-tingling launch of 'Detroit State of Mind' to the grittier shuffle of 'The Dark Dance (E.T.A. Mix)' and beatless glyde of 'Sync Deeper' that usher the D-side to a close. In between there's some lush techno space-jazz sounding like lusher Terrence Dixon in 'Hystria' and that haunting sort of 4am music that can only come from Detroit in the electro synth-laced eclipse, 'The Way They Walk The Earth', all with his very own watermark of quality.
