Boomkat Product Review:
Ahead of High Wolf's upcoming album for Holy Mountain and a US tour, NNF set the scene with a relatively subtle and serene six-track EP. Embarking at 'Etoile Star' his loops have a longer, more languid and elliptical arc coupled with plangent guitars to remind of Forest Swords. The eight minute+ 'Flowers Of Congo' keeps the vibe mellow, with gently lapping layers of percussion washing around plumes of wah guitar and corruscating organ notes, while 'Your Third Eye Is Supposed To Stay Open' enters a richly smoked-out dub ritual conducted in a cave only admissible via an underwater corridor. Like 'Flowers', 'Studio 3' takes longer to reach its destination, probably a temple at the pinnacle of an ancient Mayan staircase. This is easily one of the lushest and least noisy High Wolf records we've encountered, hence a very warm tip if you like Forest Swords or Peaking Lights.
