Boomkat Product Review:
This typically well-presented heavyweight LP captures the bulldozing power of Earth as a live band. Before we get anywhere near talking about the music, it's worth reminding you that if you really want one of the beasties you should get clicking - it's limited to a mere 700 copies for the whole of Europe. Yes, Southern Lord do like to keep you on your toes. Once you've broken into the super thick silver-embossed cardboard sleeve you'll be greeted by a selection of tracks (four long ones to be precise) recorded between 2007 and 2008. Fans of the band's recent incarnation as a dustbowl-haunting, lumbering sludge-blues band will love this, and the sound quality (the LP was engineered and recorded by Randall Dunn) is pretty impressive. The Viennese recording of 'Junkyard Priest' proves especially noteworthy for its Steve Moore trombone solos, which adds a woozy, jazzed up mariachi feel to the piece that's quite some way away from the usual Southern Lord idiom.
