Boomkat Product Review:
Quite brilliantly, when Crystal Antlers formed in 2006 three of them were working as chimney sweeps. So on paper these Californian psychers should be more Dick Van Dyke than Van Dyke Parks, yet far from being a bunch of Eastend urchins, these guys hail from southern California, spinning a sophisticated brand of '70s style retro garage aesthetics with a prog-like grasp on complex instrumentation. This EP was recorded with The Mars Volta's Ikey Owens on the heels of two 7" singles, representing a substantial twenty-something minute chunk of sound from the band, who paint a most favourable portrait of themselves via such fine works as 'Parting Song For The Torn Sky' which masquerades as a jam but on closer inspection reveals itself to be held together by a finely honed technical detail.
