Boomkat Product Review:
Vintage futureshock alert: Cybotron's legendary debut album reissued replete with bonus tracks and extensive, lucubrate liner notes by Dave Tompkins (How To Wreck A Nice Beach). As any self-respecting electronic dance music fan should know, it's nigh-on impossible to overestimate the influence and power of Cybotron, especially their signature electro anthem, 'Clear'. The sci-fi obsessive duo of Juan Atkins and Vietnam veteran Rik Davis combined a love of Kraftwerk, Funkadelic and Yellow Magic Orchestra with Davis' military compensation to conceive a truly escapist sound that at once reflected the post-industrial blight affecting their home city, Detroit, and beamed them to another place entirely, both physically and metaphorically. The classics singles collected on 'Enter', their debut album released in 1983 a few years after they met at an electronics class, laid the foundations for Drexicya, Underground Resistance, Red Planet and countless others far beyond the city limits and should be counted as one of the biggest turning points in musical culture of the last half century, no less. This expanded reissue includes the Jose Animal Diaz remix of 'Clear', the Detroit Style mix of night-driving classic, 'Cosmic Cars' plus the rarer electro-funk of 'R-9' instrumental and the cyber-funk of 'Eden'. Essential collection.
