Boomkat Product Review:
Another outing on Moodgadget for A Setting Sun, and Empty Sound proves to be a real gem, taking cues from the current digital-ambient scene, making particular reference to Tim Hecker and shuttle358 - never more explicitly than on 'Views From The Real World', which sounds like it actually samples something from Dan Abrams' Chessa album on 12k. If it's not a direct quotation it certainly comes pretty close. There are beats running through this album though, adding a more ornamental element to the sound mix, resulting in some beautiful 4/4 microsound on 'The Sunshine Mind' and 'Garmonbozia', which shuffles along with treated piano chords as its driving force. Beautiful stuff, harkening back to the very best material from the clicks & cuts movement that was so prevalent a few years back. Highly recommended.
