Boomkat Product Review:
Martyn's 3024 imprint starts the year with two reconfigured rollers from fellow Dutchman Dave Huismans operating under his 2562 moniker. Huismans' remix of Martyn's 'Vancouver' was an absolute killer, so he's been drafted in to provide two more devastating ideas for the dubstepXtechno field, combining strains of mutant garage and dub techno finished with a glistening lacquer of hi-end production skills. 'Embrace' takes the bare bones rhythms of his 'Aeriel' long player and builds a fleshy groove entwined with rosy synth washes and crackle textured dub vibes moving closer to the richly soulful vibes of Martyn himself, but still stripped enough for massive mixing potential with similarly lean and flexible productions. Much like his DJ sets, 'Hijack' on the flip manages to craftily dart between concentrated Detroit techno drive and and sensuous 2-step swing functions, with the rhythm piling forward on a 4/4 charge, but constantly tugging in opposite tangents with a crumbled subbass wamp. We can hear everything from Sandwell District style techno executions to Artwork's pedigree rhythm constructions embeddd deep inside this one, but it's only on a big system or a home rig with good subs that you're going to get the full effect. Another prime selection from 3024 and 2562 then? Aye.
