Boomkat Product Review:
Following the mayhem that was Ellen Alien’s screwed-up ‘Edbeermund’, Smash TV bring us their debut LP, and its ace. The opening ‘Nasty Girl’ sounding like a mad electroid take on Prince’s fabulous ‘Erotic City’, with a bit of man parrish thrown in for good measure. This really is everything that electroid pop should be – spannered, crunchy, just that little bit dark and totally unforgetably funky! ‘Arcade’ smashes up the asteroids in fine style, a marathon crunch-up that you’ll barely be able to keep up with, but you’ll do it with a smile! ‘Look at the Screen’ twists-up 4/4 into a vocoded machinery anthem, once again echoes of vintage Prince lurk somewhere in the mix, but this is a world where everything’s turned upside down and, consequently, sounds very much like the start of something altogether new in the world of dancefloor weaponry. ‘Confused’ sounds like Atom Heart rediscovering his electroid best, perfectly cut-up and blissfully melodic underneath, the vocal almost soothing in contrast to its surroundings. Ace.
