Boomkat Product Review:
Brilliantly straight but weird Japanese freestyle house from 1986! Reissued for first time as part of the ace Studio Mule series
Trading for stacks, if you find it, on the 2nd hand market, ‘Electric World’ is totally worth it for Ryo Kawasaki’s brightly melodic ‘Extended Version’ that appears the B-side here. All the hallmarks of classic freestyle are there, especially Ilana Iguana’s Hi-NRG styled high wire vocal and those cowbells, but augmented by a strong boogie disco flavour and ringingly rhythmelodic Japanese percussion for totally unique effect in the freestyle world. There’s also a more concise ‘Original Mix’ and what sounds like YMO doing freestyle in the Roland-tickling ‘727’ on the flipside.
